Total loss check

On a Georgia total loss the payout has to include applicable taxes, licence fees and transfer fees, limited to what would have been paid on the totaled vehicle at settlement. In Georgia that is title ad valorem tax at 7 percent of fair market value, plus the title fee and the tag fee. Georgia sets no percentage at which a vehicle must be called a total loss; the 70 or 80 percent figure people are told is the carrier’s own policy. Comparables must come from your local market, within 50 miles of where the vehicle was kept.
